Support for Staying Home, Safely and Comfortably |
More and more older adults are choosing to age in place—staying in the comfort of their own homes while maintaining independence, dignity, and quality of life. It's a lifestyle choice rooted in familiarity, community, and a deep sense of belonging. But aging in place isn’t just about staying put—it’s about staying safe, supported, and engaged. From installing grab bars to managing medications, preparing meals, or finding transportation to medical appointments, aging at home can come with challenges. Fortunately, there are local programs and services designed to help make this choice more sustainable for seniors and their families. Whether you’re just beginning to plan for the future or actively looking for support, it’s never too early—or too late—to explore your options. In this newsletter, we’re highlighting two outstanding local organizations offering practical, compassionate solutions to assist with aging in place: 🔹 Access to Independence Access to Independence provides home modifications that help older adults and people with disabilities live more safely and comfortably. From ramps and grab bars to stair lifts and accessible bathrooms, their solutions are customized to fit your home and your needs. They even offer free home safety evaluations and work closely with funding sources to reduce costs. 🔹 McGregor PACE McGregor PACE is a Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly, offering a unique blend of medical, social, and support services for older adults who wish to remain at home but need help to do so. Participants receive coordinated care—including doctors, physical therapy, day center access, transportation, and home care—all managed under one roof. It’s a wonderful alternative to nursing home care for those who qualify. |

Before making changes, get a home safety assessment—many nonprofits and healthcare providers offer them for free or at low cost. It’s a simple way to catch fall risks, poor lighting, slippery rugs, or difficult-to-access areas and fix them before they become problems. |
