May 2025 Senior Solutions Spotlight |
Welcome to the latest edition of Outstanding Ohio’s Senior Solutions Spotlight! This month we are highlighting non-medical home care services. This can be an important component to keeping seniors safe at home. If you or someone you know are considering downsizing (or making a move of any kind), I invite you to my seller seminar being held next Tuesday 5/20 in Fairlawn. We will be answering these key questions that many sellers have: - How's the market?
- Should I buy/build or sell first?
- How long will it take to sell my house?
- What should I do to get my house ready to sell?
- What should I do with all my stuff?
- How can I finance it?
The event is free to attend, but registration is required and it's filling up fast. Reserve your spot by clicking the link below. |

Staying Safe and Supported at Home:What to Know About Non-Medical Home Care |
Staying Safe and Supported at Home:What to Know About Non-Medical Home Care |
What exactly does "non-medical home care" entail and why would you need it Think of it as an "extra daughter" or a helpful "assisting hand"—someone who can support your loved one when you can’t be there. It’s not medical or nursing care, but it is personal and incredibly helpful. This kind of care can include help with: Meal prep and light housekeeping Dressing, bathing, and grooming Laundry and organization Transportation to doctor’s appointments or errands Companionship and social interaction
Having someone come in a few hours a day or even just a few times a week can make a huge difference. Not only can it help seniors stay safe and independent in their homes longer, but it can also bring peace of mind to families. Through networking, I’ve had the chance to connect with several home care providers in our area and learn more about the services they offer. I’ve also picked up a few helpful insights about what to ask and consider if you're thinking about hiring someone for support... Of course, you'll want to know the standard stuff—cost, background checks, and references—but here are a few extra important questions that people sometimes overlook: Is there a minimum number of hours required per shift or per week? (Some agencies have a 3-4 hour minimum.) What hours are caregivers available? (Ask specifically about overnight, early morning, and weekend availability.) What services are included—and what's not? For example: – Do they provide transportation? – Will they stay with the client during medical appointments? – Can they assist with pet care? Will the same caregiver be assigned consistently? What kind of training or experience do the caregivers have? (Some may have specialized dementia training or other certifications.) Are they VA-approved? (If so, Veterans may be eligible for free care through their VA benefits!)
Here are several of the companies that I've met who offer these types of non-medical home care services:*Disclaimer: I do not have personal experience with any of these companies. If you decide to use them, I'd love to hear your feedback! |
